Children's Tooth Development
From the age of three months to six years, children get new teeth on a regular basis. By the age of three, most children have a complete set of 20 primary teeth. As a child approaches the age of six, the jaw expands to make room for permanent teeth. At the same time, the tissues surrounding the baby teeth begin to resorb the roots of the teeth, and the permanent teeth beneath them begin to erupt.
Primary teeth are equally necessary for chewing, speaking, and appearance as permanent teeth. Additionally, they act as placeholders for the permanent teeth and provide structure to aid in the shaping of the child's face.
